On Renewal...
April Easters are my favorite.
I was born on a Good Friday, so I feel like me and Easter have a personal relationship on top of the whole Christianity thing. It’s my favorite holiday - not even the day but the entire Holy Week (Side note: Palm Sunday services can be more lit than Easter services if you go to the right church). Yes, it is the cornerstone of my faith (‘cause he GOT UP! Hallelujah!) but the entire story from the triumphant entry into Jerusalem, to the garden of Gethsemane, to Golgatha, to the empty tomb, takes us through purpose, doubt, haters, perseverance…Real ish we all face, especially when you’re trying to grow.
When Easter falls around my birthday, it prompts me to take time and get still. To take stock the parts of me that need need to die in current form in order to be renewed as something greater, or where I’m searching for life in empty, dead places.
I’ve been repeating the phrase “I can’t take that into 50” a lot, and I know there are some versions of Naima I’ve held on to for years longer than I was meant to. They can’t come.
11 days to go…
Nai~

Powerful words. My mother went into labor on Maundy Thursday, Born on Good Friday and came home on Easter Sunday…I too feel a deep connection to Easter…
“I can’t take that into 50,” plays in my head a lot these days…
